A practical, NEET-score-based comparison of MBBS in India versus MBBS abroad — cost, recognition, and what actually matters.

The Real Decision Point: Your NEET UG Score

The choice between MBBS in India and MBBS abroad usually comes down to your NEET UG rank and your family's budget — not a simple "better or worse" comparison. Both paths lead to the same MBBS degree pathway, provided you choose recognised institutions.

MBBS in India

Pros:

  • Widely recognised, no additional licensing exam needed to practise in India
  • Government college fees can be as low as a few thousand rupees a year
  • Familiar language, culture and food

Cons:

  • Extremely high NEET UG cutoffs for government seats
  • Private/deemed college fees can run into ₹15–25 lakh a year

MBBS Abroad

Pros:

  • Direct admission at many universities once you have a qualifying NEET UG score — no separate entrance test at most destinations
  • Lower total program cost at several public universities compared to private Indian colleges
  • Exposure to an international environment

Cons:

  • You must clear the NMC-mandated FMGE/NExT screening test to practise in India after returning
  • Always verify a university is WHO-listed and NMC screening-test eligible before applying
  • Adjustment to a new country, language and climate

What to Actually Check Before Deciding

  1. Is the university WHO-listed and NMC screening-test eligible?
  2. What is the total cost over the full course — tuition, hostel, food and travel?
  3. What is the medium of instruction — is it genuinely English-medium?
  4. What is the visa and travel process like for that country?
